With new research being done all the time, researchers are developing new products to treat or control acne. Particular interest in being placed on topical antibiotics to replace current items on the market. Through research, doctors are discovering that in time the bacterial infections connected with acne build resistance to certain acne formulas. It is unclear how common this is, but the resistance does present itself on occasion.
Scientists are gaining a better understanding of the chemical mechanism associated with acne, in order to develop new
products that work to fight this. For instance, a study is being conducted to study the chemical mechanisms that influence
sebum (your skin’s natural oil) production so that they may discover effective ways to decrease its production without the
side effects being encountered by current medicines. An alternate study is working to analyze the effects certain medications have on the brain which may result in depression. This group is in the process of developing a laser system that treats acne and acne-related scars without damaging the outer layers of the skin. Current research is allowing scientists to discover new and safer methods of combating acne
