It is a common belief that chocolate can contribute to acne. Of course it’s still up for debate. Scientific research has been done to determine the truth to this urban legend, but has been largely inconclusive. This lack of evidence puts some of us in a difficult situation. The love of chocolate verses the love of clean skin.
Some people are brave enough to conduct their own experiment. If you’re interested, you can begin by documenting your chocolate intake and your pimple output. But beware! There are dozens of chocolate varieties, each with their own additives and tastes. And each of us reacts differently to the different ingredients, not to mention hormones and stress play a role in acne. You can also have an allergic reaction to an ingredient which could result in a pimple. In my personal results I discovered a direct corelation between an acne outbreak and dairy. Thus, I reduced my dairy intake and chose dark chocolate over the other varieties.
